Osumi Old Forest Planter

In the tradition of faux bois, the Osumi Old Forest Planters are incredibly lifelike. Crafted from fiber cement in a dappled finish, the stump-shaped brown planter looks aged like an antique would had it been ornamenting a garden for decades. The way the gnarled roots culminate at the bottom is particularly convincing.

The Osumi Old Forest Planters are available in two sizes: Large at 15.75" tall and Medium at 14" tall.

While we have named our Osumi Planter in honor of all old-forests world wide, we wanted to call attention to the one of the most most diverse old-growth forests in the world located on the island of Yakushima in the southern Japanese island chain of Osumi Islands. The 200-square-mile island of Yakushima is an Òeco-paradiseÓ with nearly 2,000 species of flora, including the Yakusugi, also called the Japanese cedar. These cedars can grow as tall as 160 feet and live up to 3,000 years. The Jomon Sugi is the most ancient of these Japanese cedars. It's thought to be 7,200 years old, making it one of the oldest trees in the world. In fact, Japanese cedars in this forest are so old and so big that many locals consider them sacred.
